Jhirna Zone is one of the popular zones among the six ecotourism zones in Jim Corbett National Park. The Corbett National Park is divided into six tourist zones, of which the Jhirna zone was added much later in 1994. Unlike the areas which remain closed during the monsoon season (except the Dhela area), the Jhirna area sees a lot of crowd throughout the year, being open for wildlife safaris throughout the year.
Jhirna Zone is situated at 30 km from Ramnagar. Before visiting Jhirna Zone you need to obtain a permit issued by Jim Corbett Tiger Reserve. The area is full of natural beauty and is especially known for its wild bears that appear out of nowhere near your vehicle. 30 vehicles are allowed in this area in the morning and the same number of vehicles are allowed in the evening.
For morning visits, Day Visit Permit is issued in advance which is effective six days prior to the actual day of visit. For evening visits, a "first come first served" system is followed. It is the only tourist area in Jim Corbett National Park that remains open for the entire 12 months. Along with this, it is mandatory to take a guide along with you during the safari. There is a forest lodge in Jhirna which has two rooms. You can stay here for the night and go for an elephant safari in the morning. And can make the safari here very memorable.
